He founded and managed the Okayama Orphanage (1887-1926). Especially, the national tour of the Okayama Orphanage’s Lantern and Brass Band had a great impact on the general public in Japan. In this essay, I firstly conducted a research on the musical phenomena of the Okayama Orphanage. The results follow. 1. Ishii considered The Okayama Orphanage Brass Band as a separate organization from The Eastern Salvation Army’s Brass Band. 2. The Eastern Salvation Army was different from The Salvation Army. 3. The Okayama Orphanage Brass Band didn’t model the Salvation Army’s Brass Band. 4. Although the Okayama Orphanage in the 1890s used music as a signal or a commercial purpose, it wasn’t the special manner in that time. 5. The Okayama Orphanage Brass Band gave the image for the junior orchestra. Additional research on music situation in The Okayama Orphanage Brass Band or Lantern Brass Band is needed more close investigations with their music materials such as music notes, their concert programs, and so forth. It will illustrate the development of the “music education” and “music scene” in modern Japan and, the intellectual influence between Christianity and traditional Japanese religions.}, pages = {165--175}, title = {1890年代の岡山孤児院における音楽事象と「人間教育」- 先駆的器楽教育実践の近代音楽史における位置づけを目指して -}, volume = {2}, year = {2014}, yomi = {ヤマモト, ミキ} }
